Correct tire pressure is essential for safety, fuel economy, and tire longevity.
Steps
- Find the recommended pressure — Check the sticker on the driver's door jamb or your owner's manual. NOT the number on the tire sidewall.
- Check when cold — Measure pressure before driving or after the car has been parked for 3+ hours.
- Use a quality gauge — Digital gauges are more accurate than pencil-type.
- Inflate to spec — Add air in small bursts, checking frequently.
- Don't forget the spare — Check your spare tire monthly.
Under vs Over Inflation
Under-inflated: increased wear on edges, poor fuel economy, risk of blowout.
Over-inflated: harsh ride, less grip, center wear.
